Meet the Birchwood Centre's Junk Food Cafe
Earlier this year we spent the day with the Birchwood Centre’s Junk Food Café, which is a food waste project, which has been running since January 2018. We saw first hand the incredible work that they do utilising what many shops and supermarkets simply can not use.
Stella Connell, Director at the Birchwood Centre, said: "The Birchwood Junk Food Café and ‘pay as you feel’ shop is a great success, which continues to gain momentum within our communities. "It is really exciting to see how reducing food waste to produce home-made meals, which is collected, cooked and served by volunteers, really brings together people from very diverse backgrounds. The Junk Food café inspires positive change and its impact is truly amazing."
