Tom Samson

CEO NuGen

I joined NuGeneration as Chief Executive Officer in June 2015 and lead the company’s Moorside Project to build three AP1000 nuclear reactors in West Cumbria capable of generating 3.6GW, equivalent to seven per cent of the UK’s future electricity.

I moved to NuGen from Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation where, as Chief Operating Officer, I helped develop a programme to deliver new nuclear units at Barakah, in Abu Dhabi. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering degree at Edinburgh’s Napier University in 1990 and began my career at GEC Alstom as a design engineer before joining Marubeni Corporation. Over the years I’ve worked on energy and infrastructure projects in the USA, Caribbean, United Arab Emirates and Europe, gaining a reputation for creating shareholder value and delivering successful projects.

As a Well Whitehaven Steering Group Member, I can bring extensive global experience in developing successful organisational structures, corporate governance models and Joint Venture partnerships.

I’m passionate about driving NuGen forward to create a company capable of delivering the next generation of the UK's new nuclear reactors to provide safe, reliable, affordable and secure electricity to the United Kingdom, with the planned development and implementation of one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe.
